Iconic South Australian winemaker Penfolds, has been named the ‘World’s Most Admired Wine Brand’ in the annual Drinks International poll. Almost 200 industry experts from across the world, including buyers, sommeliers, wine writers, Masters of Wine, and wine critics took part in the vote.

Penfolds chief winemaker Peter Gago at the spiritual home of Penfolds and Grange, South Australia.
Penfolds has consistently built a strong national and international profile in past decades, owing in part to the continued success of Grange vintages. The winery has won “Winery of the Year” from Wine and Spirits Magazine 25 years in a row, and was recognised as “International Winemaker of the Year” by the International Wine Challenge. “After 172 years in the wine business we’re still hungry, still excited and still eager to make better wine and champion new followers,” Gago said.
Previous two-time winner, the Spanish wine brand Torres took second position in the competition, while Ridge Vineyards from the US took third. Penfolds had previously ranked in third place in 2014, and Jacob’s Creek Wines has placed in the list in past year.
The competition pits wine brands from all global regions, styles and qualities against each other to determine the most admirable of all brands in a highly competitive market. Experts were asked to vote based on certain criteria including the consistent quality of the brand’s wine, how well it reflects the region or country of origin, and its appeal to a wide demographic.
